Mervin Louque

Mervin Louque was born in Baton Rouge, La., and moved to Nashville, Tn. in 1974. In 1975, he went to work for engineer Johnny Rosen (Neil Young’s “Harvest”, Robert Altman’s movie “Nashville” etc.) and Fanta Professional Services. In 1976 as assistant he helped to build and operate the Fanta mobile recording facility.

Mervin worked as Fanta assistant engineer from 1976 and chief engineer 1979 to 1983 and on occasion until 1986. As a member of Fanta he recorded shows for ABC, NBC, CBS, HBO, PBS, MTV, The King Biscuit Flower Hour Radio Series, The Silver Eagle Cross Country Music Show, Radio Luxemburg, Westwood One, Capitol Records, RCA, MCA, Atlantic Records, Warner Brothers, Sony Records, Columbia Records, Universal Pictures and others.

Recorded tours for such acts as The Rolling Stones, David Bowie, Black Sabbath, Journey, Ozzy Osborne, Kansas, REO Speedwagon, Olivia Newton John, Bob Seger, Eddie Money, The Alman Brothers, ZZ Top, Billy Squier, The Doobie Brothers, Parliament Funkadelic, Alabama, The Oak Ridge Boys, Tammy Wynette, Ronnie Milsap, Willie Nelson, Hank Williams Jr., Charlie Daniels Band and others.

Mervin left the road in 1986 and in 1987 partnered with Rick Martin in Douglas Corner Cafe in Nashville, Tn. to transform it into a viable music showcase room. The acts that have performed their label showcases at Douglas Corner include Garth Brookes, Alan Jackson, Trisha Yearwood, The Kentucky Headhunters, John Berry, Mark Collie, Blake Shelton, the Gibson Miller Band, Great Plains and many others. It was the site for music videos for Keith Whitley I’m No Stranger to the Rain and Brian White Eugene You Genius and others as well as for promotional videos for artist such as Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood, Gary Alan and others. Douglas Corner has been home to many artists on their road to success such as Faith Hill, Hal Ketchum, Deana Carter, Jamie O’Neal, Rebecca Lynn Howard and many more. Some other nationally known artists who have performed at Douglas Corner include Cheap Trick, Jon Bon Jovi, Neil Diamond, Kim Carnes and Juice Newton. It continues to be a mainstay showcase room for the Nashville music community.

In 1996 Mervin purchased the original 40 foot Fanta mobile recording studio. Located at Douglas Corner and titled The Ugly Truckling it now offers and 24 track computer recording, editing and mastering, 2-analog, and ADAT.

Other Projects

In 1998 hired as chief audio engineer in charge of recording and broadcasting the 3 hour R & B Hall of Fame Pioneer Awards presentation. Held in New York City and hosted by Smokey Robinson, artists included Gladys Knight and the Pips, The O’Jays, Stevie Wonder and many other Motown Hall of Fame Members.

In 1999 hired to design and construct a state of the art mobile recording and production facility for NASCAR’s Speedway Children’s Charities. He also put together its operations crew and traveled the race circuit with the 55 foot facility as chief audio engineer.In 2001 hired as chief engineer in charge of recording a landmark performance by Grammy award winning violinist Itzhak Pearlman and the Philadelphia Orchestra in New York at the legendary Saratoga Performing Arts Center for the Online Entertainment Network.

To date continues to be involved in record, television, film and internet projects on local, national and international basis.
